HPAE Local 5094 UH Negotiations Update – April 28, 2015

On Friday, April 24th, we had our latest negotiations session with UH management. Despite still not presenting an economic proposal at this late date, we did manage to have a productive session.

We signed off on five tentative agreements, covering both management and Union proposals. The most notable of these is language that will increase job security through creating “job series”. This will allow laid-off workers to bump down into similar positions with the same title series (e.g., Programmer Analyst II to Programmer Analyst III), even if they have not previously held that title.

We also agreed on providing our Union Reps one day off, with pay, per year for Union training. This will be a big help moving forward, as we will have better trained reps to assist our membership.

Management also put four new proposals on the table. Two are modifications of our grievance and discipline language. The other two have to do with allowing management expanded rights to drug test our members and perform criminal background checks on them.

We are awaiting additional dates from management. It is our hope that we can begin talking economics shortly.
