Local 5118 Provides Scholarship to Dominic Parone

Doris Bell, Dominic Parone, and Patti Scharff

In celebration of Labor Day, the South Jersey Central Labor Council holds an annual breakfast to pay homage to labor leader Peter McGuire, to recognize local outstanding labor leaders and to present scholarships to students of union families who are pursuing a college education. McGuire co-founded the American Federation of Labor in 1886 with Samuel Gompers.

Each year, Local 5118 presents a $1,000 scholarship to a student pursing a degree in nursing or, as we did this year, to a nurse who is working on getting their Masters Degree in Nursing (MSN). This year the recipient of our scholarship was Local 5118 member Dominic Parone.

Dominic Parone was initially a member of HPAE Local 5105 when he worked at Virtua Hospital. Before becoming a flight nurse at Cooper Hospital he worked in the ED.

Presenting the scholarship to Dominic this year was Doris Bell, Local 5118 President and Patti Scharff, Local 5118 Secretary Treasurer (see photo above). We wish Dominic the best of luck.
