Local 5097 bargaining update, June 6

Staffing:

Hackensack Meridian Management REJECTED HPAE’s Staffing Proposals for Mandated Safe Ratios.

What are their solutions for our unsafe staffing at Harborage?

  • More of the same failed recruitment strategies that haven’t worked this past year like ads on buses & light rail, referral bonuses, etc.
  • They also propose that Management be able to do our members’ work.

Management seems to prefer a promise, wink, and crossed fingers over actual ratios in the contract to improve staffing so they won’t be held accountable when their staffing levels are unsafe.

Tentative Agreements:

Vacant Positions:

We have reached a tentative agreement on our proposal to ensure that vacant positions are posted on the intranet and the bulletin board for 7 days before the position is filled and that the union shall be given a copy of all job postings, job descriptions, and all employees who have applied for the job on a monthly basic.

Non-Discrimination:

We expanded non-discrimination rights to cover all members.
