HPAE Response to DOH Call for Volunteers

Statement of Debbie White, RN, HPAE President in Response to NJ Department of Health call for Medical Volunteers to assist in improving patient safety at Wanaque.

HPAE applauds Commissioner of Health’s action to improve staffing levels at Wanaque Center for Nursing.

For the past few months, the tragedy of the loss of eleven children’s lives has devastated the entire community, for the families, patients and healthcare staff who are grieving and struggling to ensure the safety of every patient in their facility.

The administration at Wanaque has been unable to adequately staff their facility to effectively contain the spread of the adenovirus infection.  Some staff have reached out to the Department of Health to report their concerns.  The Department has diligently investigated and now taken the steps to address many of the concerns raised regarding staffing levels, inappropriate assignments and infection control.

HPAE stands ready to help in any way necessary and as always, we offer our heartfelt sympathy to the families of the children affected.
