Bargaining Update for Local 5094 Rutgers University, May 3 - Health Professionals & Allied Employees

Bargaining Update for Local 5094 Rutgers University, May 3

After a full day of bargaining, we settled a number of issues and are closer to a contract but still have a number of outstanding items.

  • We reached agreement on a July 1st 2020 phase in of tuition remission. The current tuition reimbursement will continue for the next year, after which it will be replaced by full tuition remission at Rutgers.
  • We are within striking distance of an agreement on wages but are still pushing for both fair raises and step movement to bring our lower paid members up.
  • After agreeing to allowing up to a 12 week medical leave extension using donated sick time, Rutgers clarified that they could still cap the amount of leave members could actually receive by switching to the Rutgers Compassionate Leave Program, which caps the number of weeks a member could receive to 4. We need to hold them accountable to guaranteeing the 12 weeks they already offered.

Member action is working, but in order to win a good contract, we have to keep up the pressure until we have a signed agreement!
