Local 5089 Bargaining Update

HPAE met with management for another bargaining session on Monday, June 24th.  Management presented several proposals that directly attack the rights of our members, such as:

  • Per Diems would not be entitled to “just cause” protections if disciplined
  • Extend probationary period by the length of an approved leave of absence, which would only expand management’s ability to terminate members without cause.
  • Count only hours actually worked when computing overtime

HPAE has expressed our concern to management over the years and in the recent past related to the Hospital’s inability to retain staff after so much time and money has been invested into a nurse but that seems to have fallen on deaf ears, once again.

We had another discussion related to the Earned Sick Leave Act and the implementation of the benefit at the Hospital.  According to management, the first 5 sick calls are automatically designated to Earned Sick Leave regardless of the member’s preference.  We do not agree with their interpretation of the law but will keep you posted as more information develops.

The next bargaining date is scheduled for Friday, July 19th.
