Local 5089 Labor Management Meeting 11/17/09

Issue: Palm Scan System ED, PAR, OR
Questions re: written policy including grace periods for scanning, Printable records
Resolution: There was an initial committee set 1 yr ago & meeting notes will be reviewed. There is a policy which will be distributed to all nurses using system. This remains a pilot project & there is no date set for further implementation on other units.

Issue: Uniform Changes
Theresa Redgrat verbalized her intent to have nurses wear white
HPAE’s position is that the current policy stands & no changes can be made until bargained.
Resolution: There will be no uniform change until next contract is negotiated

Issue: Inadequate supply of PPE equipment in OR (specifically Thyroid shields & gowns)
Resolution: Judy C. to follow up on policy of keeping OR rooms stocked w/needed equipment
There was further discussion of on-going broken equipment on all units & need for remedies ASAP
If critical equipment is defective it is to be removed & sent to biomed & leased equipment will replace until fixed.
Jim Hagel is responsible for capital equipment & environmental rounds are to be done. An order for 50 stretchers has been placed.

Other Discussions:
*All hospital policies are currently on-line but hard copies of policies are to be on every unit. JudyC.will follow up w/managers.
*Diversity training was discussed as UMD services a multicultural society as well as employs a diverse staff. Training & development will attend a LMM to discuss this issue further.
