President's Message from The Communicator

I would like to start this message off by wishing everyone a Happy, healthy and prosperous New Year. These last couple of months have been a whirlwind of learning and getting acclimated to this new position, and trying to figure out what meeting I need to go to next.

I started this journey by deciding that I wanted to learn more about the union and how it worked, and what a better way to learn it then to volunteer for the position of president.

I never realized how much work the people on the executive board do. We have been working hard on keeping the membership informed about issues and concerns, as well as looking at distressed units. We will be keeping you updated by writing articles in our newsletter. In addition to that we will be making monthly walk throughs on the units to be available to hear your concerns or needs.

I would like to take this opportunity to encourage you all to follow your contract language. If any questions should arise, such as improper floating, DO NOT REFUSE the assignment, and contact a union rep so it can be followed up on.

In conclusion I would like to say that I am looking forward to working with each and everyone of you over the next three years, and am available for any concerns or questions.

HIT Best Practices Checklist: How does Cooper measure up?
The AFT recently adopted a resolution outlining Best Practices that should govern the development, introduction, and implementation of Health Information Technologies (HIT) in our hospitals, including electronic health records (EHR); computerized physician order entry (CPOE); computerized time and attendance systems; automated pharmacy systems, etc. [Click here to view the resolution]. HPAE was part of the Working Group that developed these Best Practices.
