Meadowlands Hospital is for sale, but who will end up paying the price?

LIBERTY HEALTH CARE, the current owner of Meadowlands Hospital and Medical Center, has signed an agreement to sell our community hospital to a complex for-profit company called MHA.

No doubt it will be a good deal for MHA – but will the rest of us end up paying the price? Each day, it seems there are more questions than answers…

  • Will there be enough money for our community’s health care after the owners take their profit?
  • Why isn’t there a written commitment to keep our hospital open – with all the services
we need, and with our current staff of nurses and health care workers?
  • Have the new owners always put patient safety first at other facilities they own?

The sale requires public hearings and approvals from the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS) and the New Jersey Attorney General.

We need to stand together to protect Meadowlands. Our goals are to:

  • Make sure that our hospital stays a full-service, acute care hospital serving the needs of our community.
  • Protect the jobs, contract and rights of Meadowlands workers.
  • Establish a community oversight board with real powers to keep our community hospital accountable to our community.

Make your voice heard. Let Liberty Health and the State know you expect them to protect the community’s access to needed health care services.

The HPAE caregivers at Meadowlands make sure we get heath care right everyday. And that means making sure this sale is a good deal for everyone who depends on Meadowlands.
