Congresswoman Watson Coleman Will Be Our Keynote Speaker at the Convention

Bonnie Watson Coleman, the Representative for New Jersey’s 12th Congressional District, will be the keynote speaker at HPAE’s convention on October 6 and 7 in Atlantic City.

Coleman has fought on the front lines of the fight to improve the lives of working families and protect our environment and natural resources, supporting increases in the minimum wage and sponsoring legislation that created New Jersey’s first energy efficiency standards. We’re delighted that she has agreed to be our keynote speaker.

Sunrise House Workers Begin Bargaining Their First Contract

Less than three months after Sunrise House workers overwhelmingly voted for union representation with HPAE, the Sunrise House Union Negotiations Committee met with management at the first bargaining session yesterday. While the committee members stressed their commitment to working with management to make Sunrise House a premier in-patient, substance abuse rehab facility, they also focused on some key problems facing staff and clients, in particular, the need to improve staffing, security, and health and safety.

Christie OKs New Oversight Group for State’s Largest Hospital

Gov. Christie gave the final green light yesterday to creating an oversight committee for the state’s largest hospital, Bergen Regional Medical Center. Sen. Loretta Weinberg (D-Bergen), a sponsor of the bill, said she had “full confidence” the law would allow Bergen Regional to have a “bright future.”
