Trump’s Sec. of Labor Pick Withdraws, Opposed by HPAE and Other Unions

Andrew Puzder withdrew his nomination to be President Trump’s labor secretary yesterday amid growing doubts among Republican senators that he could be confirmed. On the same day that Puzder withdrew, HPAE participated in a rally in Newark, NJ protesting his nomination. HPAE Public Policy Director Bridget Devane cited Puzder’s opposition to raising the minimum wage and his lack of support for health and safety regulations.

Contract Settlement Reached at Temple Episcopal, Ratification Vote Tomorrow

Healthcare workers at Temple University Health System Episcopal Hospital reached a tentative agreement with Temple management for a contract that covers all 170 nurses, social workers, and health professionals at the hospital. HPAE Local 5106, which represents the healthcare workers, will hold a ratification vote tomorrow.

President Trump and Republicans in Congress have committed to repealing and replacing the Affordable Care Act. A new interactive tool from the Kaiser Family Foundation enables users to create side-by-side comparisons of major ACA alternative plans, now including 2017 proposals from Sen. Rand Paul and from Sen. Bill Cassidy.
