New Sunrise House Officers Sworn In….and Other HPAE News

Sunrise House Officers Sworn In, Get Right to Work

HPAE President Ann Twomey gave the oath of office to the newly-elected officers of Local 5629, which represents staff at Sunrise House, an alcohol and drug rehab facility in Lafayette, NJ. After being sworn in, the new officers made a number of important decisions, including the appointment of Union Representatives who will advocate on behalf of their co-workers and enforce the contract.

HPAE Participates in Hudson County Labor Fundraiser for Phil Murphy

Local 5186 Grievance Chair Shelley Crowe joined other union leaders at the Bayonne Chandelier on Monday to show support for former Ambassador Phil Murphy, the Democratic candidate for governor. If Trump Sabotages Obamacare, Premiums Will Spike an Extra 25% by 2020

According to a report prepared by the Congressional Budget Office, Obamacare premiums for the most popular types of plans will sharply increase by an additional 20 percent next year, and by an extra 25 percent in 2020 and the budget deficit also would spike if President Donald Trump ends key federal subsidies to the program.

Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters founded at a meeting in New York City. This was the first labor organization led by African Americans to receive a charter in the American Federation of Labor (AFL). A. Philip Randolph became the union’s first organizer – August 25, 1925
