HPAE Health Professionals Speak Out to Protect Our Health Care
In the face of strong public opposition, Republican leaders in the Senate delayed a vote on their version of the “repeal and replace” healthcare bill. However, we must continue to resist their efforts as they will try to pass the bill after Congress comes back from the July 4th recess.
The Senate bill (as well as the House bill which recently passed) will cause millions of Americans to lose health care coverage and raise out of pocket costs. Four HPAE members explain why the Senate bill would be harmful to our patients.
Sunrise House Workers Return to Work United & Strong
After overwhelmingly ratifying their first contract at a meeting on June 16th, Local 5629 members at Sunrise House returned to work today after the rehab center received approval from the New Jersey Department of Human Services to reopen. HPAE President Ann Twomey (in the photo above, speaking to Sunrise House workers), HPAE VP Bernie Gerard, and HPAE staff were at the facility to meet with Sunrise House workers as they came back to work.
Tell Governor Christie: Sign the Paid Family Leave Expansion Bill!
On Monday, a bill (A-4927) to strengthen and improve New Jersey’s Paid Family Leave Insurance Program was sent to Governor Christie’s desk. The bill includes a number of improvements including a higher wage replacement, expanding the amount of paid leave available from 6 to 12 weeks, and expanding job protections for those who access the program.
