Sunrise House Workers Illegally Locked Out by Management
HPAE Local 5629 members at Sunrise House, a substance abuse treatment center in Lafayette, NJ owned by the for-profit company American Addiction Centers (AAC), have been illegally locked out by management. After nine months of bad faith bargaining and other labor law violations by management, Local 5629 members were set to begin a three day ULP strike yesterday morning. However, at 8:30 pm the night before the planned ULP strike, staff were informed by management they they were locked out.
Palisades RNs tell Hackensack Meridian: We Need Better Staffing!
Local 5030 RNs at Palidades Medical Center/Hackensack Meridian showed up in force at the bargaining session today to voice their concerns about on-going issues that management has failed to address to date. Hackensack Meridian has notified the local that they plan to achieve Magnet status by filling 143 RN positions, but they have failed to put together a timeline, as requested by the local union, for filling these new jobs and any existing vacancies. The local union has also proposed improved staffing for the ancillary units in the current negotiations. The contract expires May 31st.
June 16th Forum on “What Next for Healthcare in New Jersey?”
As Republicans in Congress continue their efforts to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act, Rutgers University’s School of Management and Labor Relations (SMLR) is sponsoring an important forum on June 16th: “What’s Next for Healthcare in New Jersey?” At the forum, leading national experts and healthcare advocates will discuss the latest developments and what we can do to protect access to and the quality of state’s healthcare system. HPAE President Ann Twomey and several other union leaders will be speaking at the forum, which will be held from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm at the Labor Education Center in New Brunswick.
