A Message From HPAE

Thanks to all of our volunteers, members and staff who walked door-to-door and phone-banked for our labor-supported candidates. It made a huge difference in the victories on Tuesday. Our candidates were targeted by Chris Christie because they stood up for our collective bargaining rights, and we stood with them in their victories.

Letter from the NJ AFL-CIO

Tonight was a great victory for working families. Our success comes as a result of the outstanding effort put forth by thousands of union members and community allies working together to educate and engage voters in this election. The leaders we elected to the New Jersey State Legislature are committed to standing up for working families during these tough economic times and will make job creation our state’s number one priority...

Labor Walk Volunteers Are Needed
October 7, 2011

The November elections for state Senate and Assembly offices are less than a month away. HPAE is recruiting members to participate in “Labor Walks” on behalf of pro-labor candidates endorsed by the HPAE Committee on Political Education (COPE).

The labor walks give us the opportunity to talk to union members in HPAE and other unions about the key issues and why it is important to support our endorsed candidates. The walks are from 9 am to 12 noon. Campaign literature and information on how to approach people are provided.

We are focusing our efforts on four targeted districts: the 1st, 7th, 14th, and 38th. In each of these districts a strong supporter of HPAE and other unions is running.

Members who participate in a labor walk will receive a $50.00 stipend.

Labor walks are taking place every Saturday through the rest of October. Here are the places to assemble before the walks begin in each of the districts:

District 1- Atlantic/Cape May Central Labor Council, 11Court House, South Dennis Road, Cape May Court House – October 15, 22, 29

District 7 – Burlington Country Central Labor Council, Kove II Caterers, 4131 Rt. 130 South, Edgewater Park – October 15, 22, 29

District 14 - Mercer County- IBEW 269, 670 White head Road, Trenton - October 15, 22, 29

District 38 - Bergen County Central Labor Council, IBEW 164, 205 Robin, Paramus – October 15, 22, 29__

HPAE Begins Candidate Review Process for November 2011 Elections
We need your input and involvement!

2011 has been a challenging year for union members everywhere – from Wisconsin to New Jersey. Here in NJ, we’ve faced attacks on our collective bargaining rights, as well as reduced funding for public services, especially education and health care.

It is also an election year in New Jersey – every NJ Assembly member and NJ State Senator is up for election in November. This is the right time to let candidates and incumbents know your views.

As HPAE's Committee on Political Education (COPE) begins to "screen" the candidates, we want to hear from you. HPAE COPE members submit questionnaires to candidates, review voting records, and interview candidates.

We encourage you to be part of this process and help us to determine which candidates HPAE should support.
