HPAE Endorses Booker for U.S. Senator in New Jersey

EMERSON, N.J. – New Jersey’s largest union of nurses and healthcare professionals, Health Professionals and Allied Employees (HPAE), announced its endorsement of Cory Booker for U.S. Senate. Explaining that nurses and health professionals need “elected officials both locally and in Washington D.C. who will work just as hard to protect and put care first,” Ann Twomey, president of the HPAE, praised Senator Booker’s record on healthcare issues.

“At every stage of his public life, Cory Booker has stood up for working families and for accountability in government,” said Twomey. “Senator Booker has stood with us to protect access to health care for all of our communities, and today we stand up to say we need his voice in the United States Senate.”

HPAE represents more than 12,000 nurses and other health professionals living and working in New Jersey, including at hospitals and health facilities in Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Middlesex, Burlington, Monmouth, Ocean, Cumberland, Gloucester, Salem and Camden counties.

“I have the utmost respect for New Jersey’s healthcare professionals and to win their endorsement fills me with pride,” said Sen. Booker. “The healthcare industry touches all of us on a daily basis, which is part of the reason I’ve made it a central focus of my time in Congress, proposing legislation to safeguard reproductive health and ensure veterans get the healthcare they deserve. We owe it to ourselves to make affordable, quality healthcare available to each NJ citizen—the professionals of HPAE fight for that goal every day, and if re-elected, so will I.”

Sen. Booker has introduced bills to protect women’s healthcare and reproductive rights, to help better fund domestic violence prevention programs, to combat inequities in public healthcare, and to help at-risk families to better care for newborns.
