Newark Town Hall with Mayor Baraka: June 22, 2015 – 6:00 PM at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center

On Monday, June 22, Newark Mayor Ras Baraka will be hosting a town hall meeting to discuss Health Care in the Newark Community. The event is from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center Victoria Theater in downtown Newark. It is free to the public and we encourage HPAE members to attend.

HPAE has reserved a number of tickets, complete the form to RSVP.

This event is the culmination of the meetings held throughout the city over the last two months. The finding of a recent Newark Community Health Needs Assessment conducted by the Baraka administration will also be released and discussed for the first time.

During the reorganization of UMDNJ, HPAE members were at the front line fighting to protect healthcare services for the Newark community at University Hospital. We are at the front line everyday when we are at the bedside caring for our patients, providing vital services to the community and fighting for safe staffing and better standards in our contract negotiations.

Now, with the release of the Navigant Report commissioned by the NJ Health Care Facilities Financing Authority, we face new challenges. Navigant concluded there is too much unused capacity and duplication of health care services and has recommended drastic changes to the Newark health care system. Unfortunately, their report raised more questions than answers. If we want to continue our fight to protect health care in Newark, it is important that we have a voice in the process.

We hope you can attend this important event to hear what the Mayor has to say and let him know what you think.
