CT/Radiology issues

  • CT weekend/night shift position remains open.
  • Sherry (CT supervisor) has been working many of the hours
  • Staff asked to change shifts to cover weekend, but not offered overtime
  • Potential candidates are not interested in doing both modalities
  • A differential to work both should be considered
  • Those presently working both without relief during the shift should be compensated
  • Beth Fikentscher (CT/XR) will come to Labor Management Meeting to present

Numbers/work duties

  • Transporting patients, disconnecting IVs: tech should transport and put patient back on monitor when they return; RN address IV fluid
  • Who is responsible to transport ED patients to CT/Xray?

On Campus Training

  • Survey members to determine if they want ACLS/PALS on our campus
  • Charge nurse and preceptor class held at Temple are not relevant for our members
  • We need education that is geared to our specific needs

Competency Days

  • We need a list of days at the beginning of the year for staff to sign up
  • Staff should have the opportunity to choose their day

ED Issues

  • Staff had no input into selecting their weekend schedule
  • Management refusing request off on weekend
  • Still waiting (one month) for button to open exit door by Room 1
  • Premium pool are not meeting night and weekend requirements. Are they being dropped to regular pool rate?
  • ER techs to do urinalysis and urine pregnancy tests
  • Episcopal ER rounding log much more detailed than Temple. Why aren’t the forms the same?

CRC issues

  • Charge nurse not assigned on schedule. Why do nurses need to sign an extra paper for charge differential?
  • Assistant manager leaves by 830pm. Needs of unit not met.

Safety Issues

  • Stat 13 CRC discharge patient threatening staff with side of wheelchair
  • Pro-V not available; limited assistance from security
  • Handles on CRC doors are not locking when closed despite being “repaired”
  • Security not checking for contraband; visitors bringing cigarettes, lighters to units
  • Visitors allowed up to behavioral units half hour before visiting time

Proposed Attendance Policy

  • Survey collection continued
  • Present policy has not been enforced
  • Proposal too punitive; Will result in many terminations if enforced
  • ED staffing is inadequate now; cannot afford to lose staff
  • If we can’t  use sick time, the Hospital should pay out sick time
  • Program could be added to track credits in Kronos
  • HR self service should include information on a person’s points (occurrences) and credits
  • If you come to work and get sent home sick, is that an occurrence?

Staffing Committee

  • First meeting on May 2, 2018
  • Jodi Repetsky has updated many BH nurses on new short staffing forms
  • We will invite nurses from various units to lunch meeting
  • If short staffed there should be a bonus.

Lab Issues

  • No call /no show. Why are those still working here?
  • Full time staff are scheduled around pool and part time staff.
  • Shifts changed without any discussion with staff
  • Why hire staff who can do only one modality? Burden falls to full time staff.
  • Are only MTs being hired? Will MLTs be required to get degrees?
  • One tech at night very difficult—working chemistry, hematology, blood bank,

Answering phone, QCs, handling equipment problems

  • Even an accessionist would be helpful
