Coming together for care: After unifying rally, management proposes takebacks

Hundreds of union members and community members rally to support safety and quality

HPAE Locals 5058 and 5138 Bargaining Update: July 2-3, 2018

Community members and nurses came together in Gables Park on June 27th to demonstrate our common goal: Put patient health before corporate wealth.

Our committee has discussed raising standards for workers and patients in our hospitals:

  1. Fair Election Agreement – Allow non-union workers to join our union without intimidation
  2. Flexing & Floating – Ending the abuse of flexing at SOMC and expanding no-float protections to more nurses in both facilities
  3. PTO Access – Ensure every member can access their earned time off

Our committee rejected Hackensack Meridian Health’s proposals weakening our contract:

  1. Performance Evaluations – Eliminate your right to grieve an unfair evaluation
  2. Staffing – Eliminate all minimum Perioperative staffing standards at JSUMC
  3. Non-Nursing Duties – add housekeeping, clerical, transport and maintenance duties
  4. Limit the authority of our Labor-Management committees, forbid collaboration between nurses and management for common-sense staffing and safety solutions
