Health Professionals and Administration Applaud a New Contract Agreement at Bergen New Bridge Medical Center

Monday, June 03, 2019

After nearly two decades of challenging negotiations with the previous operator, HPAE Local 5091 reached an agreement with the new operator at Bergen New Bridge Medical Center, who recognizes the strength of working collaboratively to improve patient care and working conditions.

“These negotiations with administration, which began just two months ago, were collaborative from the first day of bargaining. This brings relief to us as health professionals as we can now work together to make our hospital a premier facility providing safe, effective care to every patient.  Our hospital has always been the safety net for those with the greatest needs in our community and we are beginning to restore the resources vital to our patients,” said Jeff Peck, RN, President of HPAE Local 5091 at Bergen New Bridge.

HPAE Local 5091 members voted throughout the day on Thursday, May 23, 2019 to ratify a new 3-year agreement, the first contract negotiated with the new operators of the hospital. This new contract will afford registered nurses and professional staff at Bergen New Bridge Medical Center with greater incentives to pursue advanced degrees and additional certifications, while having greater access to information that can help to evaluate current patient and worker safety standards.

“This contract reflects a spirit of collaboration and mutual respect for the mission and vision of Bergen New Bridge Medical Center,” said Bergen New Bridge President and CEO, Deborah Visconi.  “This agreement is a reflection of our focus on quality and safety which clearly resonates with the professionals who worked together to secure this contract and who dedicate themselves daily to provide the highest level of compassionate, quality, and inclusive care to our communities,” added Visconi.
