HPAE New Leader Orientation

Eighteen new HPAE Labor Leaders just completed a revised, all-day HPAE training called New Leader Orientation/ NLO, held at the Rutgers Labor Center on September 10, 2019. Taught by HPAE State Officers, Directors and staff, NLO was collaboratively developed for new Local Officers who have been appointed or elected over the past year. NLO training delivers an overview of HPAE’s role in the US Labor Movement, and supports Officers in representing membership; providing effective resources for building Local power.

NLO Training consisted of a lively series of half hour presentations, covering:

  • History of HPAE, including Governance and Structure
  • Political and Economic Labor Trends: Key Challenges Facing the Labor and Healthcare Industry
  • Local Executive Boards: Basics for Effective Locals; and Safety Resources
  • Union Administration: Financial Aspects
  • Communications: Tools and Resources
  • Internal Organizing
  • New Organizing
  • Member Representation
  • Political and Community Action
