Per Diem Holiday Requirements - Health Professionals & Allied Employees

Per Diem Holiday Requirements

You will soon be receiving, if you have not already, a form from the hospital asking you to list your preference for the upcoming summer holiday. The contract section 4.05 states your requirement regarding working holidays. See below:

Casual Per Diem (inclusive of Unit per diem) employees must work two (2) holidays per year, provided the Medical Center needs them. One of these days must be either New Year’s Day, Christmas Day or Thanksgiving Day; and the other must be either Memorial Day, Fourth of July, or Labor Day. In scheduling these holidays worked, the Medical Center will attempt to accommodate the employee where possible.

The form you will be receiving will list all three (3) summer holidays and ask you to list your preference in working the holidays.

YOU ARE ONLY OBLIGATED TO LIST THE HOLIDAY YOU ARE AVAILABLE TO WORK!

Once you notify your manager of which holiday you want to work, your holiday obligation as a per diem is met when either of the following occurs:

  • You are scheduled and you work
  • You are scheduled and you are canceled by the hospital
  • You gave notice and were not put on the schedule

Do not let yourselves be intimated by managers to sign up for holidays that you know you are not available to work. Any questions, please contact Alice (1-973-851-9487) or Michele (201-315-1992). Thank you.
