MEMBER ALERT LOCAL 5030

On March 10, HPAE Locals met with Hackensack Meridian Health to discuss their compensation package for our members. Management came to the table and offered a “take it or leave it” offer that included takeaways from our current contract. HPAE presented a proposal that we felt rewarded and recognized our exemplary service during the pandemic and would help Hackensack remain competitive in the local labor market and help to retain staff. Hackensack did not respond to our proposal.

This past Monday, we presented Hackensack with a petition with over 2000 signatures and we demanded a follow-up meeting to continue the discussions for a fair raise for all and to work in partnership with HMH to retain and recruit staff. To date, we have not heard back from HMH.

This past Monday, we presented Hackensack with a petition with over 2000 signatures and we demanded a follow-up meeting to continue the discussions for a fair raise for all and to work in partnership with HMH to retain and recruit staff. To date, we have not heard back from HMH.

HERE ARE THE FACTS ON THE RAISE HMH OFFERED AND THE TAKEAWAYS THEY DEMANDED

  • A 3% raise effective April 17th. The current contract states July 1 of this year with a 2% raise. This is % more than the current agreement.
  • A market rate adjustment to starting rates of pay for new-hire RNs at 7.5% for 0 YOE and a 2% increase on all steps after that. This would benefit people hired after the change. This adjustment would also benefit us in years when we have negotiated a step increase for current RNs. There are no step increases scheduled for the next two years.
  • HMH would pay 75% of the amount owed from July 2019 until present on an arbitration filed on members behalf with regards to overtime when a holiday was worked within that period. This would amount to upwards of $75,000 in back pay for hundreds of members.

TAKEAWAYS

  • In exchange for the above, HMH proposed that we accept their interpretation of contract language on overtime worked during a holiday week. The current language states if you work a holiday (and get 1.5x pay) and you work more than 40 hours in the week, then the hours you worked on the holiday WILL count toward the overall 40 hours for the purposes of overtime calculation. HMH does not want the hours worked on a holiday to count toward the weekly overtime calculation.

TAKE ACTION

  • FILL OUT THE POSTCARD – Tell HMH to be fair and equal when it comes to a raise and that there should be no takeaways. Give the postcard to your manager, HR, or your union rep. Take a photo prior to turning it in and send to us.
  • TAKE A SELFIE PHOTO WITH YOUR CO-WORKERS – Use the HPAE sign and make sure you are on break and in a non-patient care area.
  • EDUCATE YOURSELF AND YOUR CO-WORKERS – attend a meeting, share this flyer.
  • Local50302@HPAE.ORG for all questions and to sign up for the meetings.
