Notice of 2024 Nomination and Election of Local 5094 HPAE and AFT Convention Delegates and Alternates

The Nominations/Election Committee announces that we are now accepting nominations to represent Local 5094 at this year’s HPAE State Convention , as well as the AFT National Convention. You may nominate an individual for one or both conventions. An explanation of each convention can be found below and the procedure for nominations below that. Members may nominate themselves.

HPAE State Convention: The Local has voted to elect sixty-one (61) delegates and two (2) alternates to attend this year’s convention which will be held at Tropicana, Atlantic City, New Jersey, October 17-18, 2024. Local 5094 Constitution and By-Laws states that all elected local officers are delegates to the convention and would be the ranking delegates. Local 5094 will pay for sixty-one (61) delegates to attend, reimbursable up to the amount of $200 per delegate, for travel and room expenses (room based on double occupancy). If a delegate cannot attend, the alternate receiving the highest number of votes will receive the money for travel and room expenses as previously described. All other expenses incurred by that delegate are their responsibility. The nomination/election committee is currently accepting nominations for these positions. Positions: Sixty-one (61) delegates and two (2) alternates to represent Local 5094.

AFT National Convention: The Local has voted to elect seven (7) delegates and two (2) alternates to attend this year’s convention which will be held at George R Brown Convention Center, Houston, Texas, July 22nd – 25th , 2024. Local 5094 Constitution and By-Laws states that all elected local officers are delegates to the convention and would be the ranking delegates. HPAE will pay for two delegates to attend and the Local will pay for five, reimbursable up the amount to $2,500 per delegate, for travel and room expenses (room based on double occupancy). If a ranking delegate cannot attend, the alternate receiving the highest number of votes will receive the money for travel and room expenses as previously described. All other expenses incurred by that delegate are their responsibility. The nomination/election committee is currently accepting nominations for these positions. Positions: Seven (7) delegates and two (2) alternates to represent Local 5094.

NOMINATIONS PROCEDURE: Attached you will find a Nomination/Declaration Statement. Submitted forms containing a consent to serve must contain the signature of the nominee indicating that the member accepts the nomination, or they will not be accepted. Consent forms must also be accompanied by the last four digits of the nominee’s social security number. Return completed form directly to HPAE Local 5094 Nominations/Elections, PO Box 119, Emerson, New Jersey, 07630 or email to elections@hpae.org. The members receiving the highest number of votes will become delegates and the next highest number will be alternates based on the number of positions allowed. NOMINATIONS DEADLINE: April 22, 2024 at 10:00 a.m.

ELECTION DATE: Ballots to be mailed to all members on April 29, 2024, and must be returned by May 20, 2024. Candidates may be present for the mailing of the ballots. If it is an uncontested election, the committee will cast one ballot on behalf of the slate, in which case no ballots will be sent. Please advise the committee if you wish to be present at the mailing of the ballots.

ELIGIBILITY: Any HPAE Local 5094 member in good standing thirty (30) days prior to the election is eligible to run for delegate or alternate.
