New Jersey Healthcare Workers celebrate election victories

Pro-labor candidates win in most races

After one of the most consequential elections in American history, with the fate of democracy itself seemingly in balance, HPAE congratulates the large slate of candidates that the union endorsed who are the declared victors in national, state and local races.

HPAE Vice-President Barbara Rosen, RN, applauded New Jersey voters who showed up at the polls and accounted for themselves well in voting for candidates who fight for workers and community. Rosen congratulated Andy Kim on being elected as a New Jersey U.S. Senator.

“Senator-elect Andy Kim will be a strong advocate for HPAE members and for healthcare,” Rosen said. “We are excited to get to work with him in his new role.”

Voters also elected Herb Conaway (D) to Kim’s previous District 3 seat in the U. S. House Representatives, and Donald Norcross, has retained the House of Representatives seat for District 1. HPAE also wants to congratulate the following declared winners and those leading by a wide margin in their districts:

“This is the first in confronting the challenges healthcare workers face, challenges like chronic understaffing, workplace violence and ensuring workers have a voice in the workplace” Rosen said. “We need the assistance of these leaders in passing enforceable safe staffing ratios in our hospitals to allow workers to do the work of caring for their patients.”
