We Won! Nurse Caren Got Her Job Back!

We have wonderful news to share with you today: Nurse Caren McCain was reinstated to her position in MSP at UH with backpay!

Our Union Rep team and Caren herself worked tirelessly to present a compelling case during the grievance hearing and clear Caren’s name, but we could not have won the grievance without the support of all the nurses who proudly wore the Stand with Caren stickers on their chests in the week of the hearing!

This victory truly showcases the power of our Union in the face of injustice. Management will not get away with terminating nurses without evidence at University Hospital, because HPAE will always have your back!

If you are not a Union member yet, now is the time to join by filling out the application under this link: https://membershipapps.hpae.org/publicSector  Becoming a dues-paying member strengthens Local 5089 as it makes member commitment clearly visible to management. Only as a member can you attend membership meetings, vote to make decisions about contract ratification and collective actions, participate in bargaining surveys, and more. Additionally, AFT, our parent Union, offers a lot of benefits and discounts to our members (see here for more information:https://www.hpae.org/resource/benefits/).

If you already are a member, we are looking for more Reps to represent members in disciplinary cases and support the union in grievances as well as Unit Captains to spread the word about collective actions such as the sticker action that helped Caren.

You can find the Unit Captain application here.
