Local 5107 Members at Phoenix Center: Important Union Update
Arbitration:
Management violated our contract by paying some per-diems above our contractual rates. Our Union’s position is that if they can afford to give SOME members an extra raise, they must be able to afford a raise for ALL. Because of pressure from members, Management finally came to the table in November. However, they gave us a cheap, sloppy, unprofessional, and frankly insulting response that would have only benefitted some per-diems, and no full- or part-timers. We rejected it and filed for arbitration. Now, Corporate will not even respond to our calls, texts, letters, or emails. They even dragged their feet paying the Arbitrator’s fee!
In spite of Corporate’s greedy, childish behavior, we will make our case to an Arbitrator (date TBD), who will make their binding ruling. More information to come.
Charge:
Per our contract, Charge must be designated, in writing, on the schedule. The Nurse in Charge receives a $1 differential. If you are not designated as Charge in writing, you are not obligated to do charge duties. If you are asked by a supervisor to do charge duties, do not be insubordinate, but politely ask to be designated as Charge, in writing, first. If you feel your floor needs a charge nurse for a particular day/shift, inform your supervisor and/or text the Supervisor phone: (973) 897-7333. We work hard, but we don’t work for free!
