Contract Negotiations Officially Underway for HPAE local 5058
Today marked the official launch of contract negotiations between HPAE Local 5058 and Hackensack Meridian Health. Your bargaining team came to the table strong, presenting 49 union proposals on behalf of the 1,700 dedicated nurses at Jersey Shore University Medical Center.
Key proposals include:
- Safe Staffing Ratios: Clear, enforceable nurse-to-patient ratios
- Wage Improvements: Across-the-board increases and the end of merit-based pay
- Health & Safety: Panic buttons, increased security, and protections from violence
- Shift & Role Differentials: Fair compensation for nights, weekends, and specialty roles
- AI Protections: Ensuring new technologies support, not replace, skilled care
- Expanded PTO: More time to rest and recharge
- Education & Support: Stronger tuition reimbursement, clinical ladders, and childcare benefits
Throughout the session, the team underscored ongoing concerns
about staffing shortages, nurse burnout, and workplace safety—while pushing
forward solutions that prioritize both nurses and patients.
Management did not present proposals but has agreed to review
the union’s full proposal package. The team remains optimistic and united in
reaching a contract that strengthens care and supports those who deliver it.
