Local 5058 Negotiations Update – July 22 & 24 Meetings with HMH
We are making some progress at the table and wanted to share a few key updates:
- Tentative Agreement Reached on Student Loan Repayment Program: We reached a Tentative Agreement (TA) on a student loan repayment program that will help ease the financial burden many of our members face.
- Tentative Agreement Reached on Improved Protections for Members Returning from Leave: We’ve reached a TA on new language to ease the process of returning from a Leave of Absence (LOA), providing extra time to complete mandatory training and education.
- Stronger Protections in Discipline and Discharge: Your bargaining team continues to push for improvements in the disciplinary process. We’re making headway in ensuring fairer treatment and stronger protections for members facing discipline or discharge.
- Work Schedule Proposals: We continue to negotiate proposals that would provide for fairer and more flexible work schedules.
Management still has not provided a detailed response to some of our big proposals, including on wages and enforceable staffing ratios. We need all of our members to show up to prove to HMH how much these issues matter to us. Our Staffing Day is on Thursday, August 7th at Ocean Place in Long Branch, and you’re invited! We will start at 8am with our Code Red breakfast, where local elected officials will be invited to hear from our members on the issue of safe staffing. Then, starting at 10am, we will go to the negotiating table with HMH, and we will have our members speak on how unsafe staffing at JSUMC has affected us and our patients.
Again, we need to show HMH how important this is to us, so we want as big of a turnout as possible. Feel free to bring your kids if you need to, as long as you also bring your coworkers and your unsafe staffing stories! If you can’t make it, tell some of your coworkers they’d better be there to represent your unit! Please RSVP here for our Staffing Day on August 7th.
In Solidarity,
Negotiations Team
