HPAE Convention 2018
Celebrate our past. Welcome the future.
Since 1974, HPAE has led the way – Protecting and advocating for New Jersey patients, health professions and communities.
At our 2018 Convention, we will pause to celebrate HPAE’s bold leadership team: Ann Twomey, Bernie Gerard and Barbara Rosen.
Nearly 13,000 members strong, the Health Professionals & Allied Employees have long been the lone voice standing up against for-profit corporations and their attacks on the rights of healthcare workers, patients and the communities we serve.
While our members fight on the frontlines of healthcare, our leadership team of President Ann Twomey, First Vice President Bernie Gerard and Secretary/Treasurer Barbara Rosen has always had our backs through the longest strikes, toughest negotiations and sweetest victories. As Ann and Bernie retire after their remarkable years of service to our union, the 2018 HPAE Convention will provide our membership with the opportunity to welcome the future – by electing a new leadership team of officers.
The Convention of the Health Professionals and Allied Employees, AFT, AFL-CIO will convene at the Harrah’s Waterfront Conference Center in Atlantic City, NJ, on October 5, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. The convention will remain in session until 4:00 p.m. or until all legal issues are given full consideration. Pre-convention activities will begin on Thursday, October 4, with lunch and committee meetings starting at 12 noon.
The HPAE convention is the primary decision-making body of the state federation. The vitality and democracy of the union depend upon participation by delegates from all HPAE locals in good standing. Important resolutions, constitution and bylaws, amendments, and the election of the HPAE president, first-vice-president, and secretary-treasurer will be in the hands of the delegates. Each local should take part in the election and all convention business.
Plan now to ensure representation from your local. Please review the following information carefully. Constitutional provisions for HPAE conventions were adopted to ensurebn members are represented in their governing body. Delegates must be nominated and elected according to the HPAE constitution and the Labor-Management Reporting and Disclosure Act (Landrum-Griffin Act).
