NJ Assembly Candidates in District 3

Assemblyman Adam Taliaferro says he has been a strong advocate for nurses because it was nurses who stood by his side during the most challenging times of his life. Before entering politics, Taliaferro played cornerback for Penn State where he experienced a paralyzing spinal cord injury. He was then rehabilitated at Magee Rehabilitation Hospital in Philadelphia and gained national media attention for a remarkable recovery with the help of nurses and health professionals. He immediately started giving back to his community, founding the Adam Taliaferro Foundation to help support other recovering athletes.

The Voorhees NJ native got involved in politics by serving on the Gloucester Freeholder Board of Directors where he was a strong advocate for HPAE nurses in South Jersey. When Inspira-Woodbury nurses organized to form HPAE last year, Taliaferro worked with other Gloucester County Freeholders to publically endorse the nurses right to unionize and send a letter to the hospital urging the administration to recognize the voice of the nurses. He was then appointed to the NJ Assembly in the 3rd District, where he has continued to support RNs and safe staffing at HPAE events.

Assemblyman John Burzichelli has been a strong advocate for nurses and union rights since serving in the NJ Assembly 3rd District for over a decade. Before joining the Assembly, Burzichelli served as the mayor of Paulsboro in South Jersey, following in the footsteps of his father who served as Paulsboro Mayor before him. When nurses voted to join HPAE at Inspira hospitals in Vineland, Elmer and Bridgeton in 2006, and again at Inspira-Woodbury last year, Burzichelli supported the nurses and their right to have a say in working conditions and patient care in the Inspira Health System.

A long-time resident of South Jersey, he has also been a tireless supporter for nurses at Memorial Hospital of Salem County who have been in a legal battle for their union rights since organizing the union in 2010.
