On Wednesday, May 16th, we had our third negotiations session with Rutgers/UCHC. Management responded to the proposals we had presented at our last session on April 30th and presented us with two counterproposals. We then presented Management three additional proposals which can be summarized as follows:
1. Hostile Work Environment – This proposal would incorporate our side letter of agreement into our contract and expand it to include a provisional expressly prohibiting workplace bullying.
2. Overtime Scheduling – This proposal would clarify the process for voluntary overtime scheduling and prohibit all mandatory overtime.
3. Staffing – This proposal would create a Staffing Advisory Council comprised of members from the Union and Management who would be tasked with setting staffing levels. It would also require additional compensation for all nurses who work shifts that are chronically short-staffed.
Our next negotiations sessions are scheduled for June 7th and July 12th.
