Breakfast Briefing and Negotiations Update

Breakfast Briefing and Negotiations Update

On Tuesday, May 13, Assemblywoman Lisa Swain, Assemblyman Chris Tully, and State Assembly candidate Damali Robinson, RN, joined members of HPAE Local 5091 for a breakfast briefing regarding their ongoing contract negotiations with New Bridge Medical Center. The assembly members and candidates expressed their support for Local 5091 members in the bargaining process, including the possibility of joining a picket line if necessary to secure a contract. After the briefing, the bargaining committee, led by Local 5091 President Faith Mazuru, RN, resumed its negotiations.

The committee remains committed to advocating for:

  • Safe staffing ratios
  • Competitive wages
  • Affordable health benefits
  • Enhanced protections against workplace violence
  • A fair and equitable culture at New Bridge Medical Center

Thanks to the support and involvement of our members, we have reached several tentative agreements:

  • Increased tuition reimbursement
  • Enhanced bereavement leave
  • Protections for new nurses
  • Safeguards concerning disciplinary actions and discharges

However, management continues to propose only a 2% wage increase over the next three years, accompanied by an 11% rise in health insurance costs. We have firmly REJECTED both of these proposals!

WE DESERVE BETTER and acknowledge our TRUE WORTH!

Membership Meeting & Strike Vote

A strike vote will take place from May 22-24. You will receive an electronic ballot via email and text. This does not signify an imminent strike; rather, authorizing the negotiating committee to call a strike if necessary will enhance our bargaining power to secure the best possible contract for everyone.

We strongly encourage everyone to vote “Yes” on the 22nd. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to us. We held a Strike School last week, and our educational efforts will continue in the days ahead.

In Solidarity,
Local 5091 Negotiation Team
