HPAE Press Release on NLRB Election for Samaritan Hospice Workers to Join HPAE

NLRB Sets Election Date for Samaritan Hospice Workers to Vote on Joining HPAE

HPAE petitioned the National Labor Relations Board for union recognition on behalf of workers last year

One hundred and sixty professional healthcare workers at Samaritan Healthcare and Hospice have filled for an election to join HPAE, New Jersey’s largest healthcare union. The staff at Samaritan are organizing to improve the quality of care at their locations, including fighting against cuts to supplies for patients and unstable wages and benefits. The election will be via mail ballot.

The union filed for an election with the National Labor Relations Board in December 2025 seeking to represent all professional employees at Samaritan. Samaritan then dragged the workers through a multi‑day Labor Board hearing in a failed effort to carve up the unit and exclude certain caregivers—racking up tens of thousands of dollars in unnecessary legal fees in the process.

Rather than acknowledging the rights these professionals have under labor law, Samaritan has also chosen to waste tens—if not hundreds—of thousands of patient‑care dollars by hiring an anti-union firm to wage a war against organizing efforts. But these workers stand strong and united.

Ballots will go out on February 13th , and votes will be counted on March 13, 2026.

Debbie White HPAE President said, “We are incredibly proud of the decision of this group of healthcare professionals to stand together and organize with HPAE.  They possess such courage, commitment and solidarity and we look forward to the day we will welcome them into the HPAE family.”

The healthcare workers include Registered Nurses, Advance Practice Nurses, Lead Advanced Practice Nurses; Nurse Practitioners; Field Nurses; Clinical Educators; Social Workers; Bereavement Counselors; Spiritual Support Counselors; and Music Therapists in offices in Mount Holly, Voorhees and Mount Laurel as well as in home care settings.
