The employees at Samaritan Healthcare and Hospice will have an opportunity to decide if they would like to join a labor union through a vote approved by the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), according to the labor union Health Professionals & Allied Employee (HPAE).

The 160 healthcare workers at Samaritan filed in December 2025 with the NLRB to join the union “to improve the quality of care at their locations, including fighting against cuts to supplies for patients and unstable wages and benefits” per HPAE, which is considered the largest healthcare union.

“We are incredibly proud of the decision of this group of healthcare professionals to stand together and organize with HPAE.  They possess such courage, commitment and solidarity and we look forward to the day we will welcome them into the HPAE family,” said president Debbie White.

In a statement, HPAE accused Samaritan of dragging “the workers through a multi‑day Labor Board hearing in a failed effort to carve up the unit and exclude certain caregivers—racking up tens of thousands of dollars in unnecessary legal fees in the process.” They further alleged that Samaritan has also chosen to waste tens—if not hundreds—of thousands of patient‑care dollars by hiring an anti-union firm to wage a war against organizing efforts.

A spokesperson for Samaritan told TAPinto Mount Laurel said that “At Samaritan, we value and appreciate all our staff. While we prefer to engage with them directly, we encourage our staff to educate themselves on the process so that they can make the best decisions for themselves and their families.”

Ballots will be sent via the mail to Samaritan Healthcare staff, including Registered Nurses, Advance Practice Nurses, Lead Advanced Practice Nurses; Nurse Practitioners; Field Nurses; Clinical Educators; Social Workers; Bereavement Counselors; Spiritual Support Counselors; and Music Therapists.  The employees work at Smaritan office locations in Mount Holly, Voorhees and Mount Laurel as well as in home care settings.

These works will start to see ballots in the mail on February 13th.  The subsequent votes will be counted on March 13, 2026.
