Local 5058: Bargaining Update, September 8, 2025

We returned to the table with HMH management today.

We are continuing to push for movement on two of our biggest issues, staffing and pay, and other issues including on-call and PTO. Management is still pushing some of their own obnoxious proposals, including flexing.

We arranged to meet with management again tomorrow to continue bargaining.

Our current contract expired this morning. Most of the terms of the contract remain in effect until a new contract is ratified, but one aspect of the contract that is no longer in effect is the section preventing strikes and lockouts. We appreciate so many of our members voting to authorize a strike, and so many of our members telling us that they are still ready to walk out if it comes to that. Your support has made a real difference.

We’re still holding off on calling a strike while we see how much we can accomplish with other types of leverage. That means you should keep reporting to work – and wearing your union swag and telling your managers to take our demands seriously. Tell them if they don’t, that you can’t wait to go on strike to prove to them that we’re the ones who really run the place.

We’ll keep you updated!
