Local 5107 VNA Contract Update – February 15, 2018

MEMBERS MADE THEIR VOICE HEARD AT NEGOTIATIONS!

Close to 20 nurses from both West Orange and Englewood came to make their voices heard at negotiations on Monday February 12th. Nurses spoke out about visits being assigned to tablets late in the day, with no notice to the nurses by phone. They also spoke out about the increased documentation expectations.

They respectfully and clearly stated that 7 points per day for case managing RNs is not conducive to patient safety and quality care. As the bargaining team has done in previous meetings, VNA nurses told management that they share the goal of delivering quality care and ensuring patient safety, but a fair contract settlement has to realistically capture the work that is being expected of nurses.

6th Bargaining Session Held February 12th

We met for our sixth bargaining session with VNA last week at the West Orange office.

Management responded to our proposals, and again, we had positive discussions on issues like per diems receiving hourly pay on weekend days they have no patients assigned, clustering visits geographically, and adding 1 paid holiday for all employees. We are close to reaching agreement on these issues.

However, VNA management is far from the Union’s proposals on staffing workload and productivity. In addition, VNA has not made a wage proposal for Essex yet.

NEXT SESSION: WEDNESDAY FEBRUARY 21ST, 2018 AT 11AM AT THE ENGLEWOOD OFFICE
