Local 5103 Union Update, December 17, 2025

As you know, the Red Cross is seeking a reduction in the workforce, and has been discussing potential layoffs. We were recently informed that these layoffs could come as soon as next month and would affect around 9 staff. While we don’t want to unnecessarily alarm you, particularly over the holidays, we wanted to make sure that we kept you informed.

We are extremely frustrated to hear about this decision. We have had countless Labor Management Meetings where we’ve pointed out wasteful inefficient drives, drive set up issues, and many other decisions that increase the regions costs and yet very little has changed. As Union leadership, we will be doing everything we can to fight for our members through this process. This means ensuring that any layoffs are done by seniority, and in accordance with our contract.
