HPAE statement on HRH’s demand of $25 million to continue operating Heights University Hospital
“Just six months ago, Hudson Regional Health (HRH) assured the courts and New Jersey regulators that they had the plan and the financial wherewithal to buy three hospitals from CarePoint Health — Christ Hospital in Jersey City, Hoboken University Medical Center, and Bayonne Medical Center. Now they are asking the state of New Jersey — aka the taxpayers – to provide $25 million to help bail them out just six months into their ownership.
“Unfortunately, this is not a new story. We saw this happen with CarePoint last year before they declared bankruptcy. HRH, in fact, gained control of the hospitals from bankruptcy court.
“State regulators should hold HRH accountable to fulfil the promises they’ve made during the bankruptcy. Any funding must come with transparency, a plan and a requirement to fulfil the plan.~ HPAE President Debbie White, RN
