Local 5185 February 2026 Union Update
Union Books:

Layoffs:
Hundreds of union members in every department stood up to oppose layoffs, signing petitions, making phone calls, and speaking in meetings. Although HRH is laying off a small number of members, we will ALWAYS oppose ALL layoffs to the maximum. We are one union with one voice – an attack on one of us is an attack on all of us. Together, we were able to save several jobs. Now, We are working to negotiate the best terms possible for all laid-off members.

Staffing:
Our new contract has some of the strongest staffing protections in NJ – Not only did they prevent some layoffs, but are benefiting members day-to-day.
As a result of a grievance, Management is offering Bonus contracts to RNs in ED and ICU, as well as authorized $10.00/hour bonus shifts for CNA/PCPs, BHTs, and Mental Health Associates.
Unsafe Staffing Forms were a major part of getting this win, so please continue to fill out forms and Verge ALL instances of Unsafe Staffing.
To make yourself available for bonus shifts (above your regular weekly commitment), ask your supervisor (in writing) and use your department’s Availability Book and write “Bonus Only”
