A confirmation by U.S, Bankruptcy Judge Kate Stickles this afternoon has resulted in HRH taking control of the operations of Christ Hospital in Jersey City, the Hoboken University Medical Center, and the Bayonne Medical Center, officials said.

“This is a threshold moment for Hudson County, as Hudson Regional Hospital can finally realize its vision of a high-performing healthcare network with esteemed services and financial stability,” HRH Chair Yan Moshe said in a statement.

“Building on the healthcare model we established at Hudson Regional, we see a vibrant opportunity to substantially modernize facilities and practices in each location and use our new scale to deliver greater value to patients. The future is bright.”

The concept of Hudson Health System, which was first unsuccessfully attempted in January 2024, was announced at the end of October, with CarePoint declaring Chapter 11 bankruptcy to secure $67 million in financing less than a week later.

The move was completely expected for those following along since September, when the CarePoint board began discussing financial restructuring moves that included filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, as HCV first reported.

“We fully recognize that services can, and must be improved at all three facilities. Our goal is simple: we want residents of all three communities as well as the surrounding area to have confidence in their community hospital,” added HRH President and CEO Dr. Nizar Kifaieh.

“We will be working diligently to restore the trust in the healthcare system, and bring reliable, quality healthcare to the people we serve.”

The New Jersey Department of Health granted HRH their certificate of need for the BMC last month.

This was little more than a formality since officials recognized HRH as the new BMC operator in November and the New Jersey Department of Health’s State Health Planning Board granted HRH a certificate of need in December.

At the BMC, HRH is already boasting a remodeled Emergency Department, reopening and enhancing the CATH LAB, the revival of its Graduate Medical Education Program, a new physical therapy facility, pharmacy, and waiting room, among other things.

Now there, are questions about what the future of the hospitals will be, with Hoboken already floating a hospital redevelopment plan that has not yet made it to a vote.
