Health Care Town Hall

As we mentioned in last week’s message, Governor Murphy and the NJ state legislature chose to include in the state budget a savings of $200M over two years that would be achieved by increasing your health insurance costs. This was not in response to an emergency, but a deliberate choice by the politicians that are supposed to be representing us. Even after more than double that amount was found in unexpected revenue, these cuts remained. To make matters worse, the state has not even released comprehensive information about the plan changes or the expected costs and has released charts and calculators that have old and misleading information. We deserve better.

The fight on this issue is not over, but in the meantime, we want you to know what your options are and to share the information we know so that you can make the most informed choice you can. Join HPAE Locals 5089 and 5094 at a series of Coalition of Rutgers Unions health care clinics with workers at Rutgers, University Hospital and NJIT to learn what we know about plan changes and cost increases, what your options are during the benefits Open Enrollment period (during the month of October), and to ask questions and talk with our colleagues about these changes and their impacts.

Sign up for any of the Fall 2025 Coalition of Rutgers Unions Health Care Clinics below (you may sign up for more than one if you wish, but the information will be largely the same, depending on the discussion):

More sessions may be added later, depending on the need and as more information becomes available.

For information about the mechanics of making the actual plan changes, see the following information put out by the State of NJ: https://nj.gov/treasury/pensions/documents/pdf/EnrollmentGuide.pdf
