Local 5089 2025 Notice of Nominations and Election
Please be advised that nominations are now open for all officer positions of Local 5089. Only members in good standing may nominate or be nominated. This election will take place by secret mail ballot.

- One (1) Vice President – University Hospital (Peri-op and DOC/SDS)
- One (1) Vice President – University Hospital (FHS and Clinic Areas)
- One (1) Treasurer
- One (1) Secretary
- One (1) Grievance Chair – University Hospital
- One (1) Grievance Chair – Rutgers

Local 5089 officers may also serve as HPAE and AFT convention delegates.
TERM OF OFFICE: January 1, 2026, through December 31, 2027
NOMINATIONS PROCEDURE: A member in good standing may nominate another member in good standing to be a candidate for office by submitting this form by the October 31, 2025, deadline. Members may self-nominate. Nomination forms must include a nominee-signed Consent to Serve, which includes the last four digits of the nominee’s Social Security Number. Typed signatures will not be accepted. For any position, a member may only nominate one candidate, and a member may only be a candidate for one position. In addition, to be nominated, a candidate must submit to the Elections Committee a petition containing the signatures of ten (10) percent of the membership, or twenty-five (25) members whichever is less. Once the nominations period closes, a candidate may not revoke their consent without approval of the Election Committee. Completed forms should be returned to Local 5089 Nominations and Elections, P.O. Box 119, Emerson, New Jersey 07630 or emailed to [email protected]. Candidates are encouraged to confirm receipt of the nomination from before the deadline by emailing [email protected].

NOMINATIONS DEADLINE: Form must be received no later than October 31, 2025. Forms received after this time will not be accepted. No exceptions.
ELECTION INFORMATION: Ballots will be mailed to all members on November 10, 2025, and completed ballots must be returned by December 4, 2025. Members may update their mailing address at: www.hpae.org/update-my-information. Members must abide by the HPAE local union election rules, which can be viewed here: www.hpae.org/resources/electionrules. Unopposed candidates shall be deemed elected.
Candidates may submit campaign statements, which will be posted on the local webpage. Statements are due by November 7, 2025, 5:00 pm. Statements should be five hundred (500) words or less and submitted in electronic form to [email protected]. A campaign photo may be submitted.
Electioneering on the following platforms or venues is strictly prohibited: Union’s Facebook or other social media platforms, Union bulletin boards, union premises, union meetings. This does not bar candidates from campaigning on their own social media accounts.
ELIGIBILITY: Any member in good standing for a period of six months prior to the date of the election is eligible to run for office. All elected candidates will attend an HPAE new officer training.
