Newark Lives Matter

More than 50 years ago, the people of Newark reached an historic agreement to allow Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, to build a medical school in their community. Besides halting a planned evisceration of the community, the agreement called for the community to have a major voice in the University’s operation in the city and for substantial services to be provided to the community. While it can be argued that Rutgers has reneged on most of the things it agreed to provide the community, no one disputes Rutgers and major figures associated with the university have thrived from those agreements. This site will chronicle the perpetual struggle against the continued plundering of Newark by Rutgers.
