Nurses and Healthcare Professionals reach Tentative Agreement with Temple Episcopal Hospital

February 15, 2017

Healthcare workers at Temple University Health System Episcopal Hospital reached a tentative agreement with Temple management for a contract that would cover all 170 nurses, social workers, and health professionals at the hospital. The healthcare workers, organized with HPAE Local 5106, will vote on ratification for terms of the new contract, which they have been negotiating over since January.

According to the union, healthcare workers have been advocating for terms and conditions to improve hospital safety and staffing in the behavioral health center, emergency department, and other services at the Episcopal campus hospital, which is part of Temple University Health System. “We know patients of all income levels depend on our hospital for quality patient care,” said Elizabeth Nulty, an Emergency Department RN and President of HPAE Local 5106.  “This agreement addresses our priority to retain qualified healthcare workers so we can provide the best care for our patients and community.”

The bargaining committee will strongly recommend ratification to their union members, and if approved, the contract will go into effect March 1, 2017, when the current contract expires. Details of the agreement will not be released until union members vote on ratification, which will take place this Friday, February 17 at the hospital.
