On July 1, 2018, Rutgers University, Rutgers Health Group and RWJ Barnabas Health will be entering into an historic public-private partnership to form an academic healthcare system for the next 20 years; and at the same time, University Hospital is planning to close its Pediatric Units and move them to Newark Beth Israel.
The Union Coalitions at Rutgers University and at University Hospital are partnering to sponsor a legislative breakfast to discuss these issues along with other changes that are happening in the delivery of public healthcare services in Newark and throughout the state with elected officials.
What: Legislative Breakfast
When: Friday, May 18th starting at 8:30 am
Where: Rutgers New Jersey Medical School, 185 S. Orange Ave., Newark, NJ 07103 Rosemary Gellene Room B-515
We will be discussing:
- Rutgers University, RU Health & RWJ Barnabas partnership and its impact to community health services and access to quality health services
- University Hospital’s Trauma 1 Status
- Rutgers Contract Negotiations
- NJ’s commitment to University Hospital
The union coalition partners continue to be very concerned about the precise details of the affiliation and its impact on our members. When public institutions such as Rutgers and University Hospital enter into partnerships with a private company or move to eliminate health care services, there must be oversight and transparency.
