HPAE Leaders Attend the Women in Leadership Development (WILD) Conference

The 10th Anniversary of Women in Leadership Development (WILD) Conference brought together over 200 women unionists from diverse generational, geographical, and occupational backgrounds in New Jersey, and included many familiar faces as well as many new faces.

HPAE leaders and staff participated in the annual WILD conference, which was held at the East Brunswick Hilton on March 8 and 9. All who attended enjoyed the confererence and left energized to continue their union activism.

Several political leaders, including Congressman Frank Pallone and State Senator Barbara Buono, who is running as the Democratic candidate for Governor in November, attended and met with the conference participants.

Some reactions from HPAE leaders to the conference:

Jeannie Redd (Local 5089):  This was my first WILD conference but it won't be my last.  It was great meeting and spending time with my sisters from different locals from NJ and NY.

Elmer Daniels (Local 5989):  It was a great conference, I really appreciated the opportunity to spend time with Congressman Pallone to discuss UMDNJ and higher education's reorganization.

Barbara Jenkins (Local 5094):  I've been coming to these conferences through the years and it was great celebrating WILD's 10th Anniversary with sisters from different unions.

Banita Herndon (Local 5089):  It was wonderful to have the opportunity to have lunch with Laurel Brennan, I learned so much about the history of labor and what real leadership means.

Claudia Storicks (Local 5105): I was so excited to see Barbara Buono opening the conference Friday night, the crowd was energized and ready to support her campaign.
