HPAE Mourns the Tragic Death of Tracy McAllister
On August 27, 2013 a tragic accident took the life of Tracy McAllister, a Registered Nurse and HPAE union activist at Memorial Hospital of Salem County. Tracy had worked at the hospital for 12 years in the Emergency Department.

Tracy was a charismatic, dedicated nurse who was not only respected for her professionalism, but also her desire to enjoy life to the fullest, bringing joy and laughter wherever she went. Those who knew Tracy will remember her as an amazing nurse, mother, friend and as a relentless advocate. Her actions spoke a thousand words, and she will be sorely missed by so many who she has cared for and loved.
Tracy will be remembered as a strong union nurse who advocated for her patients, her co-workers and her profession. Three years ago Tracy led her coworkers to a union election vote that resulted in an overwhelming majority of the nurses voting in favor of joining HPAE.
Despite the hospital's refusal to recognize their union rights, Tracy continued to speak up and fight against injustices in her hospital, simply because Tracy was a tireless advocate who was determined to see her co-workers stand together to improve patient care and workers’ rights. Tracy was a humble woman who would not have identified herself as a leader, but everyone who worked with her knew that it was Tracy who they could count on to lead them in the right direction towards a better way.
In her memory the Nurses of Memorial Hospital of Salem County will move forward in the fight for their union rights and quality patient care – to see through the mission Tracy so longed to see come to fruition.
