HPAE Attends Newark Mayor Ras Baraka’s Inaugural Ball

HPAE and other labor unions were strong supporters of Ras Baraka's campaign for Newark Mayor. Baraka supported our key issues of adequate funding for community health services and workers' rights. In the May 13 election, Baraka emerged victorious, defeating his opponent, Shavar Jeffries. Baraka's celebration of his inauguration on July 1 didn't end with his address at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in the afternoon. Baraka held an inaugural ball that night for hundreds of his supporters, including HPAE Local 5089 President Elmer Daniel, HPAE Public Policy Director Jeanne Otersen, HPAE Public Policy staff member Jean Pierce, and HPAE Vice President Bernie Gerard.
