James Tedesco on Sunday pledged to transform Bergen Regional Medical Center, to reduce the 2015 county budget and bring high-speed wireless Internet to low-income Bergen County students.

Tedesco was sworn in Sunday as Bergen County Executive at Bergen Community College.

The former Paramus mayor unseated Republican Kathleen Donovan in the November election. Even before his public swearing-in, Tedesco had already moved to fulfill one of his campaign promises, signing a memorandum of agreement to make the Bergen County Police Department a division under Sheriff Michael Saudino’s office.

Tedesco said the move would save Bergen County up to $200 million over the next 25 years. Saudino, a Republican, pledged to work with Tedesco’s administration.

“I look forward to working with the new administration for many, many, many years,” he said.
